As I said before if you are trying to create a cartoon version of this a lot of those concerns don't matter, if you are putting it on top of a costume the hard choices are chosen for you, but if you have the range of options provided by CG there is a real risk that going to far in one direction will cause a very jarring design. It makes everything from the structure of the skull to the way the pelvic and pectoral girdle ambulate a real challenge.

I would probably make the nose look more like this too, with a slight protrusion, and perfectly spherical nostrils.Īs the only lineage of amniotic anapsids among the tetrapods, they have lots of very unique morphological characters that just don't blend well with human anatomy. It would be more subtle than this, but Turtles have some beautiful patterns in their skin, swirls and stripes and the like.

I would just ask that you divorce yourself from your expectations and take a second look. The new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is not necessarily for you.Say what you will about revamping older properties for the sake of nostalgia, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been a. I think they captured a great deal of nuance in Mikey's face, and that is about all I can comment on at this point. I don't sit there and think this looks fake when I see their faces move. Now I am not going to say I think this movie is going to be great, because I don't, but The character design makes sense to me. Faces that I could see myself relating to.

Could they have accomplished that without full stand in CG characters, sure, but from the very little I saw of the turtles in this teaser I would say they did an admirable job making expressive faces. I want a more expressive turtle, and I got one. When, I think it was Leo, says 'splinter' and his big old mouth makes almost no movement I can't help but think this is really stupid. When Leo runs to Raph after Raph gets beat up and his whole shell bends when Leo puts his weight on it.

It is one thing for a cartoon to have a beak with teeth and no nostrils, and the characters can still talk like a normal person, It would really stretch my personal suspension of disbelief if I saw that on something that was supposed to be 'real.'Īs much as I love the first movie, The scenes where the suits are obviously suits really breaks my suspension of disbelief. However, I have put considerable thought into how I would design a ninja turtle for a live action movie, and in the end I came to the conclusion that lips and a nose would be apart of my design. If I were to write, produce, and direct a ninja turtles movie it would be very different from this one. I do understand where you are coming from. But the story could at least make sense within the parameters of the world in which it exists, and the characters could be more than just two-dimensional cardboard cutouts. You are one of the most logical and reasonable people I have had the pleasure of talking with on NeoGAF. Sure, you might think that a comic book adaptation about adolescent, mutated amphibians doesn't need to make much sense because it's just a ridiculous sci-fi comic book concept. Watch the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Out of the Shadows Honest Trailer below. Unfortunately, as the folks at Honest Trailers so astutely points out, they also forgot to write a story that makes some goddamn sense. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows included villains like Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady, the Technodrome, cut down on Megan Fox's screentime and more. The first film in the rebooted Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise may have gotten everything wrong about the heroes in a half-shell, likely thanks to Michael Bay's involvement, but Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon tried to make it better by delivering a sequel that was more faithful to the animated series.
